One of the best ways of preparing for your GCSEs is to test yourself by doing past exam papers. Edexcel, OCR and AQA GCSE Mathematics past papers are an important part of our Maths tutoring as they provide invaluable help for students preparing for their exams.
Going through past papers is essential for your GCSE revision. They will help you become familiar with the types of questions you’ll be asked. And unlike your exams, you can immediately check your answers against the Mark Scheme to give you an overview about how much you know… and how much work you’ve still got to do.
Download your free GCSE AQA, Edexcel or OCR Maths past papers below.
The more past papers you work through, the more familiar you’ll become with them. This will help you enormously when it comes to the real exam because you’ll become familiar with the way it looks, the way they pose the questions, and where to find the additional information that could turn out to be vital, e.g. where to find out how many marks each question is worth. The more familiar you are with the past papers now, the less likely it is that you’ll feel ‘thrown’ when you sit down for your exam.
The great thing about using AQA GCSE Mathematics past papers is that you can go through the answers in the corresponding Mark Scheme which you can also download here. Once you’ve marked your paper (be honest with yourself!), you’ll find out where you need to do more work and where you may need additional support to help you understand the subject.
By doing a number of past papers, you’ll get to know what you already know well and, more importantly, what you don’t. You’ll then know the areas you’ll need to work on so you have a much better chance of passing the exam
Familiarity with the papers will help you pace yourself during the exam. It’s usually the case that the lower-marked questions are asked first with the more complex calculations. Knowing this, you can work out the amount of time you can spend on each question and pace yourself. You can also work out if you prefer doing the easier or more complex questions first – it’s all a matter of finding out what’s best for you.
It’s always a good idea to try and recreate exam conditions as far as possible when you’re working through the AQA GCSE Mathematics past papers. If you can, find a quiet room to work in, put all your devices in a different room so they don’t tempt you, and ask people not to disturb you. It’s also a good idea to give yourself the same amount of time to work through each past paper as you’d get in a real exam. You could ask a family member to let you know when your time is up or, if you have to use your phone timer, make sure all the other notifications on your phone are on silent (except for the alarm) and put the phone where you can’t see it, for example, in a cupboard, a drawer, or your bag.
